New experience in the Microsoft Teams admin center for managing event licenses

Microsoft recently announced an update to the Microsoft Teams admin center focused on event licensing administration, specifically for Attendee Capacity Pack licenses. This update is designed to simplify and centralize how administrators manage attendee capacity for large Microsoft Teams events.

What’s new in the Teams admin center?

With this update, the Teams admin center now includes a dedicated license management experience for Teams Events. From a single location, administrators can now:

  • Discover which Attendee Capacity Pack licenses are available in the tenant.
  • View the assignment status of these licenses at both the organizer and tenant level.
  • Assign, reassign, or revoke licenses directly from the admin center.

This experience follows the same management patterns used for other Microsoft Teams add-on licenses, making it more consistent with existing administrative workflows.

Assigning and managing licenses for event organizers

One of the most practical improvements in this update is that Attendee Capacity Pack licenses are managed directly per event organizer. From the Teams admin center, admins can:

  • Assign an Attendee Capacity Pack to a specific user who organizes events.
  • Reassign the license when it is no longer needed.
  • Revoke a license in a controlled manner when requirements change. [mc.merill.net]

Each organizer can have only one Attendee Capacity Pack assigned at a time, and the assigned license determines the maximum attendee capacity that organizer can configure for their Teams events.

Impact warnings when removing a license

This new experience also adds visibility into the potential impact of license changes.

If an administrator attempts to remove an Attendee Capacity Pack from an organizer who has upcoming events scheduled, the Teams admin center displays clear impact warnings. These warnings indicate that future events may be affected and allow the admin to review which specific events rely on that license before proceeding.

This helps prevent unexpected capacity issues or disruptions for already planned events.

Improved visibility at the user and tenant level

The update also improves overall license visibility and oversight:

  • License assignment status is visible per user.
  • A consolidated view of Attendee Capacity Pack usage is available at the tenant level.
  • This makes it easier to track how licenses are being used across the organization.

Does this require configuration changes?

No. According to Microsoft:

  • The feature is enabled automatically when Attendee Capacity Pack licenses are present in the tenant.
  • No policy changes are required.
  • There is no impact to end-user or event organizer workflows.

Availability

The rollout of this new license management experience in the Microsoft Teams admin center begins in late April 2026 and is expected to complete by early May 2026, for both commercial and GCC environments.
