I have fresh news about AOSP support that I want to share with you! 🗞️🎉

The end-of-support dates for Android Device Administrator have changed, and it’s essential that you stay informed about the new timelines. 📅

AOSP Firmware

To enable Microsoft Teams devices on Android to enroll in the new AOSP management, it’s crucial that they have updated firmware that supports and installs the Authenticator App and the Microsoft Intune App (which replaces the Company Portal).

When Will This Happen?

The preview program for selected Microsoft Teams Android devices is scheduled for the second quarter of the 2024 calendar year. The general availability of the Android AOSP management firmware update will occur later, in the fourth quarter of the 2024 calendar year, for all eligible Microsoft Teams Android devices.

What Should IT Administrators Do?

Eligible Microsoft Teams Android devices will initially receive a manual firmware update in the Teams admin center. IT administrators can then manually verify the migration according to their own schedules for selected devices.

Important Note! 🚨

The firmware update, including support for Android (AOSP) management, must be accepted. It can be postponed for up to 90 days after it becomes available for the first time. You can handle this similarly to other firmware updates in the Teams admin center.

End of Support for Android Device Administrator

Microsoft’s previous deadline for supporting Android Device Administrator was August 30th (in fact, as of writing this post, that date still appears in the portal).

This date is significant because the AOSP option is not yet available, and as we just read, it won’t be until Q4.

What Now?

Intune support for Android Device Administrator on devices with access to GMS will end on December 31, 2024, according to the updated dates from Microsoft. So, we have time to take necessary actions and install the required firmware for AOSP before Android Device Administrator goes out of support.

Don’t worry! Devices will remain enrolled after the firmware update.
