Today, many organizations experienced an unexpected issue with Microsoft Planner inside Microsoft Teams, causing confusion and interruptions in daily task management workflows.
Users reported that the Planner app suddenly disappeared from Teams, failed to load, or was no longer available to add or pin. In most cases, this happened both in the desktop and web versions of Teams, while Planner itself continued to work outside of Teams.
What’s the Issue?
Microsoft has confirmed an ongoing service incident where some users are unable to view or access the Planner app within Microsoft Teams. The issue does not affect all tenants or users equally, but its impact has been widespread enough to disrupt teams that rely heavily on Planner for task assignment and project tracking inside Teams.
It’s important to note that this is not a data loss scenario. Existing plans and tasks remain intact and accessible through other Microsoft 365 entry points.
Who Is Affected?
The impact appears to be:
- Tenant-specific and user-specific
- Limited to Planner inside Teams
- Independent of platform (desktop and web can both be affected)
In many cases, Planner works normally when accessed outside of Teams.
Temporary Workarounds
Until Microsoft deploys a permanent fix, the following workarounds can help teams continue working:
1. Access Planner via the Web
Users can access all plans and tasks directly using:
This is currently the most reliable workaround.
2. Use Planner through Outlook on the Web
If your Planner plan is associated with a Microsoft 365 Group, it may be accessible via Outlook on the Web, under the group experience.
3. Re‑add or Pin Planner in Teams (If Available)
In some cases, users can:
- Go to Apps in Teams
- Search for Planner
- Add or pin it again to the app bar
Results vary depending on tenant configuration and propagation status.
4. Admin Check: Teams App Availability
For administrators, it’s recommended to verify that:
- The Planner app is enabled for all users in the Teams Admin Center
- App availability policies haven’t been unintentionally altered
This does not resolve the incident globally, but may help in specific scenarios.
Current Status
Microsoft is actively investigating the root cause and working on remediation. This is a service-side issue, meaning local troubleshooting (cache clearing, reinstallation, etc.) has limited effectiveness.
For ongoing updates, administrators should monitor:
